Oil Anyone?

This cartoon bluntly illustrates one of Bush's hidden motives behind the invasion of Iraq. Fortunately for Bush, he knew Iraq had one of the largest oil reserves; unfortunately for the people of Iraq, Bush felt an invasion of a country was the necessary steps to obtaining what he wanted. Take a moment and ask youself, If we were initially invading Iraq to find the weapons of mass destrustion that were supposedly hidden within the countries soil, why is the Bush Administration focused on passing a law that allows an open door to Iraq's oil?? Seems a little suspicious doesn't it? I found a website that I would recommend reading if you are unfamiliar with the oil law in process...Claiming the Prize: Bush Surge Aimed at Securing Iraqi Oil.

STAY OUT!!

While watching this video, you witness the repulsive perception that other countries such as Latin America have about the United States. We are greatly disliked, and this video bluntly states why. We have overthrown over 50 countries' governments (as stated in the video clip above) because we feel they are less civilized and have the inability to carry out an ideal democracy. But who are we to say what is a better rule of government? I would have to agree with this angry plea to stay away. As an American, I can say that I am disgusted by the ways in which our government feels we need to change and civilize third world countries. Just because their living standards do not compare to ours, that does not give us the right to invade and try to change their way of living to better suite our standards. The example used in the video focuses on Hugo Chavez's struggle to restore his position as president. He was elected by his people, and then overthrown because the United States did not agree with his views. It is not our place to do what we have done to numerous countries. They live the way they want to live, we are not saving anyone, we are hurting them. The United States government needs to understand that diversity is the idea of accepting, not manipulating. Would we allow another country to overthrow our government because they disagree with our views on democracy. To me, democracy is what that country makes of it. The United States needs to learn the meaning of respect!

                     Just Like Home...

I had no way to hold back laughter when I first saw this cartoon. It was perfect! It completely matched how I feel our form of government has digressed to; a series of arguments between people in power, while the voice of the people who make our society function, is silenced. It is sad that the idea of the United States government has to be displayed like this, and more unfortunate that it can be looked at as the most accurate description of us.
